Round Table – CSRD, Data, & Software (July 2024)

Round Table – CSRD, Data, & Software (July 2024)

On Thursday 11 July, Intire successfully organised its second roundtable on the theme of the challenges of ESG data and software. We discussed such complexities with a group of 10 financial, sustainability, and IT professionals who are involved directly in their organisation’s CSRD implementation.

One of the biggest challenges in reaching CSRD compliance is data collection. Many organisations are looking for the most effective approach to collecting CSRD data and how best to use software to successfully address CSRD compliance challenges.

This roundtable took place on the 11th of July 2024.

What did we discuss?

The day started with a clear presentation by Ramon van Herwijnen of Swiss Sense. Ramon shared Swiss Sense’s experience with CSRD and their search for the right software solution. Swiss Sense’s central goal is to achieve full ESG reporting compliance by 2025 through a user-friendly tool that creates ownership for future users within the organisation.

The presentation was followed by an interactive breakout session led by Wietse Mol of Intire. Wietse highlighted different aspects of data in the context of ESG tools. He stated that the ESRSs (European Sustainability Reporting Standards) were a good standard for sustainability reporting, but also stressed the importance of a good data model. He also gave practical insights into dealing with different data models during software implementation projects.

Wesley Schulte of Intire closed the day with an engaging break-out session on software selection. He presented the different strategies within software offerings, ranging from Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) solutions to Enviromental Health, Safety and Quality (EHSQ) solutions, Sustainability Management Software (SMS) solutions, Low Code SMS solutions and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) integration solutions. Each of these five solutions has its own advantages and disadvantages, and choosing the best solution depends on the organisation’s business context and objectives.

Main take-aways:

The discussions during the roundtable were lively and informative. Participants shared their own experiences and challenges with ESG data and software. There was a lot of focus on the practical aspects of implementation, such as linking data from different sources and securing data quality.
A key conclusion of the roundtable was that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to the challenges of ESG data and software. The best approach depends on each organisation’s specific needs and context. However, by sharing open knowledge and learning from each other’s experiences, we can accelerate and simplify the transition to sustainable reporting.

Intire is proud of the success of the roundtable and would like to thank all participants for their valuable contribution. We remain committed to supporting our clients in navigating the complex world of ESG data and software.
