Carbon reduction target setting
Once you have been calculating your corporate carbon footprint, a logical next steps is to look at carbon reduction targets. After all, you want to demonstrate to your internal and external stakeholders that you take your role in fighting climate change seriously. Moreover, CSRD eligible companies are required to report on their climate action plan and targets.
Carbon reduction targets can either be set bottom-up or top-down; you either assess what reduction measures can possibly be taken and roll this potential up to a company target. Or you set yourself a Paris-proof reduction target to start with, and look at a roadmap for achieving these targets thereafter.
An increasing number of companies are looking to set Science-based targets and have these validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). This requires that companies have calculated their full corporate carbon footprint in alignment with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, have assessed the SBTi (sector) guidance and are able to break down their emissions accordingly.
Should you need help in defining targets and/or submitting to the SBTi validation services, Intire has the expertise and experience to efficiently guide you through this process.
