Carbon Accounting
To gain insight into their climate impact, companies calculate their corporate carbon footprint. A leading standard to follow is the Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard of the GHG Protocol .
Many companies start with accounting for the emissions related to their fuel and energy consumption (Scope 1 & 2).
A next step would be to include the value chain emissions (Scope 3) that are linked a company’s business activities. This can be a complex and time consuming exercise which requires information from different stakeholders and a good understanding of the different calculation methods.
