On Tuesday, the 27th of August, Intire successfully hosted an interactive workshop focused on the value chain within the context of the Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The event brought together a diverse group of 9 professionals from both the private sector and government, including organisations that were CSRD-compliant, those just beginning their compliance journey, and participants from organisations not obligated to comply with the CSRD.
This hands-on workshop gave participants the opportunity to explore practical approaches to mapping value chains and identifying stakeholders beyond their organisation’s immediate operations. The primary objective was to offer actionable insights into integrating these elements into the Double Materiality Assessment process and CSRD reporting.
What did we discuss?
The workshop began with an informative presentation on the Value Creation Model and the Value Chain, followed by a compelling case study featuring Tony’s Chocolonely. This case study highlighted the various processes and stakeholders connected to the company, providing participants with a detailed understanding of value chain mapping.
Following the presentation, attendees engaged in a hands-on activity, where they were tasked with physically creating the value chain for Tony’s Chocolonely. Using a white canvas, colorful felt, and markers, participants mapped out the entire value chain, from raw materials to disposal by the consumer. They then used different colored pawns to represent various stakeholders within the chain. The final step involved marking areas on a world map where Tony’s Chocolonely’s value chain operates. This interactive exercise underscored the importance of understanding a company’s global value chain and the roles that various stakeholders play along it.
Key Takeaways
The workshop offered a dynamic and practical approach to addressing the complexities of building a value chain in line with CSRD requirements. Participants left with valuable insights on how to effectively map different chains and processes involving suppliers, customers, and consumers, as well as how to identify key stakeholders at various stages of the value chain.
A key takeaway from the workshop was the importance of understanding the extended value chain for conducting a thorough Double Materiality Assessment and ensuring accurate CSRD reporting. By physically mapping out stakeholders and value chain connections, participants gained a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of different actors and the influence they have on sustainability outcomes.
Intire is proud of the success of this workshop and extends its gratitude to all participants for their enthusiastic participation. We look forward to hosting more workshops that provide practical, hands-on experience in navigating the complexities of Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) and CSRD compliance.
